# Promo Codes

A promo code adds something to your FourA account: extra credits or traffic, a trial of a plan, or a discount on a monthly plan for its first months. Each account can use one promo code, ever, and codes can't be combined.

## Using a Code in the Dashboard

1. Open **Billing** in the dashboard sidebar.
2. On the **Plan & Usage** tab, click **Have a promo code?** under your plan's buttons.
3. Type the code and click **Apply**.

The code applies at once, and upper or lower case doesn't matter. Once your account has used a code, the button is replaced by a line that names the code and what it gave.

## Using a Promo Link

A promo link looks like `https://foura.ai/promo/CODE`. Opening it stores the code in your browser, where it's kept for up to 30 days. When you then create your FourA account, the code is applied to the new account before its first dashboard page loads, so a trial or extra credits are already there.

A link can also open a given page: `https://foura.ai/promo/CODE/prices` remembers the code and lands on the prices page. Adding `?promo=CODE` to any foura.ai address does the same as the link.

A link applies its code only to an account created after it was opened. If you already have an account, type the code on the Billing page.

## What a Code Gives

| Kind | What you get |
|------|--------------|
| Extra credits or traffic | Credits, standard traffic, or premium traffic added as a top-up that lasts twelve months, like one you buy |
| Trial | A plan at no charge for a set number of days, for an account that isn't on a plan yet |
| Discount | A percentage off a monthly plan for its first months |

### How a Discount Works

A discount code waits until you buy a plan. It applies to monthly billing only, and to the plans the code names or, when it names none, to any public plan with a monthly price. The upgrade page shows the price you'll be charged with the discount and what the plan costs once it ends.

The discount comes off the price before VAT, and VAT is charged on the rest. It applies to each paid month for as many months as the code gives, renewals included, and the invoice prints the code and the percentage under the plan line. After those months the plan's own price applies. While the discount runs, Billing shows how many discounted months are left.

## When a Code Doesn't Apply

The dialog answers with one of these messages:

| Message | What it means |
|---------|---------------|
| This code isn't valid, or it has expired. | The code doesn't exist, isn't active yet, is paused, or has expired. The message is the same in every case. |
| This code has been used as many times as it can be. | The code has a limit on how many accounts can use it, and it's been reached. |
| Your account has already used a promo code. Codes can't be combined. | One code per account. |
| This code is for new accounts only. | The code is for accounts that have never made a payment to FourA. |
| This code starts a trial, and your account already has a plan. | A trial code can't replace the plan you're on. |
